Sellafield Ltd Asks Supply Chain to Support County Council Request - Avoid Temporary Road Bridge
Cumbria County Council has announced that a new temporary road bridge in Workington has now opened.
The bridge has been installed as quickly as possible to meet the desperate need to link the community which has been split since the two bridges which crossed the River Derwent were lost in the devastating floods in November. As a result the new bridge can only accommodate a maximum of 60 per cent of the traffic which used to use the old bridges before the floods.
Sellafield Ltd prides itself on being a good neighbour; we were keen to help during the immediate aftermath of the floods, something which many of you partnered with us on, and we have continued to offer our help and support to agencies who are managing the ongoing flood recovery process.
A request has come to us from Cumbria County Council that, wherever possible, Sellafield Ltd [and by inference, our supply chain] avoids using the new bridge when it comes online at the end of the month and continues to use the A595/A66 Papcastle Bridge route which has been the only available route since November, in order to minimise congestion in Workington town centre.
This is a request that we are happy to adhere to, and one which we would respectfully ask for your support with.
Please continue to access Sellafield via the A595/A66 at Papcastle Bridge and do not use the new temporary bridge in Workington.
Many thanks in anticipation.
