The second in our new series of nuclear professionalism videos ‘Choice and consequences’ is now available to view and to support your discussions. These videos were developed to help promote discussion about the choices and consequences we all face at work each day.
The second video ‘Taking control of your work’ highlights some of the at risk conditions that can, and do build up during a task or project. These conditions remove some our defence in depth barriers and leave us vulnerable to significant events, so it’s important we remain situationally aware to prevent something life changing happening to ourselves or a colleague. You are our best safety resource in identifying and resolving local safety hazards.
Situational awareness is about staying sharp and focused, it’s about looking out for each other and recognising when someone in your team is distracted and then helping them re-focus. It’s also about following procedures and safety rules, using error reduction tools and trying to keep each other’s questioning attitude healthy. Remember, this video is not just about what happens during the task, but also covers the many different contributions that we all make to ensuring safe delivery.
You can access the video via the intranet.
