Sellafield Ltd and our Cumbrian supply chain partners are inviting young people to attend this year’s Engineering Open House Day event, taking place during the week commencing 24th July 2017.
The Engineering Open House Day is organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and sees more than 30 companies and organisations open their doors to children to showcase inspiring careers in engineering and encourage parents to support their children in choosing careers in engineering and technology.
We are inviting local school children from years 7, 8 & 9 and their parents to visit our sites and take part in the many activities that are happening through the week.
The events will include:
The events are part of a wider campaign, Engineer a Better World, which aims to support parents and young people in finding out more about modern engineering. With the UK currently experiencing a shortage of engineers – it’s estimated that we need to find nearly 2 million new engineers over the next decade – the issue has never been more pressing for the industry.
Jeremy Watson, IET President, said “We’re delighted to have so many fantastic brands opening their doors to local children and parents to show them what careers in engineering are really about. Often we find that people don’t really understand what engineers actually do day-to-day, so this is all about giving a real-life insight and helping kids understand that engineering is at the heart of many things they know and love.”
Visit the intranet for further information about the events and to book a place to attend, please email Sellafield.IET@sellafieldsites.com.
