Sellafield Ltd Chosen Charities

SL chosen charities

Our first chosen charities for 2017 will be Hospice at Home West Cumbria and St Rocco’s Hospice in Warrington,

Pauline Deans, Community Liaison Officer, said “It is sad but many of our employees will already be aware of the vital work that both of these charities carry out in the community as a result of a friend or family member needing their assistance.  By supporting these two worthy causes as our chosen charities we are helping to ensure they are able to continue to provide support to those who need it most.”

Hospice at Home provides a vast range of care and support to patients, families and carers.  The support given by the community helps them to continue to give patients with life-limiting illnesses the choice to remain in their own homes, close to loved ones, giving them the care they need.

St Rocco’s Hospice is a registered charity and is dependent on community support. As well as providing care they promote physical, social, psychological and spiritual wellbeing for patients.  All of the care provided is free, for both patients and their carers. Only around a third of their funding is provided by the NHS; the rest comes directly from the community which they support.

To help raise awareness and funds for both of these worthy causes, a Trainee Fundraising Working Group has been set up  which has representatives from right across the apprentice and graduate communities with the aim of using the whole trainee community and running a coordinated calendar of fund raising activities throughout the year.

Stuart McCourt, Education, Community and Development Lead, said “We are always grateful to the apprentice and the graduate communities who work so hard and play a major part in fundraising for the chosen charities every year.  Last year operating independently they managed to raise over £12,900 for the RNLI which was one of our chosen charities, it is exciting to think what they can achieve working together”.

Keep an eye on the intranet and the Sellafield TV screens for further details of the fundraising events.
