Vital equipment replaces cards this Christmas

SELLAFIELD Ltd has handed over more than £2,000 worth of equipment to The West Cumberland Hospital in lieu of sending out official site Christmas cards.

The company decided to stop sending out cards a few years ago and have instead been helping out local charities ever since.

Managing Director Barry Snelson, MBE, handed over the equipment, which included cots for the maternity ward and other equipment for the elderly care ward, on behalf of the company.

Barry said: “Although we all like to receive cards and goodwill messages at this time of the year Sellafield took the decision to stop sending out Christmas cards a couple of years ago.

“A card or two might not seem expensive but when you consider the cost of having them printed and posting them out then you are looking at a couple of thousand pounds – and we felt that this money could be far better spent on equipment for the hospital.

“The staff at The West Cumberland Hospital are the real heroes of our community and if this donation of equipment helps them it is of benefit to us all.

“I’m delighted to be handing over the equipment, and on behalf of Sellafield Ltd and its employees I’d like to wish everyone at the hospital a very merry Christmas.”

The other equipment purchased was a Pulse oxymeter with case and four Genius thermometers for the Elderly Care Department.
