Overseas Pu Return

The Overseas Pu Returns programme allows highly active waste to be returned to the customer in accordance with contractual obligations and UK government policy. UK policy states that waste arising from contracts for reprocessing signed with overseas customers since 1976 is to be returned to the customer of origin.

In August 2011 the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority announced the closure of the Sellafield MOX Plant due to the impact on the Japanese nuclear industry after the earthquake.

An updated version of the Overseas Pu Return section of the Sellafield Plan will be published soon.
