CIPS nomination for Sellafield’s ombudsman
THE role of Sellafield Ltd’s Supply Chain Ombudsman has been nominated for a Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) award for its contribution to corporate responsibility.
The CIPS awards are designed to celebrate and reward excellence in the field of purchasing and supply management. The nomination of the Ombudsman’s role is one of three that Sellafield Ltd has received.
The appointment of Dave Henderson, Sellafield Ltd’s current Supply Chain Ombudsman, offered a unique and innovative opening in the nuclear industry.
First introduced by Steve Morgan, Director of Commercial and Contract Management in 2004, the role is aimed at improving trust and helping to develop and support relationships between Sellafield Ltd and its suppliers.
“I am very pleased and honoured that my submission has been shortlisted” said Dave.
“My role not only covers the traditional complaints handling aspects as the title suggests, but it also acts as a first point of contact for the supply chain, whether its to find out information about other suppliers or to share innovative ideas and suggestions.
“I’m also responsible for representing Sellafield Ltd on stakeholder groups, presenting at industry forums and providing information for the supply chain via the ‘Supplier Area’ of the external website.
“I also coordinate the twice yearly Supplier Forums as well as publish the ‘How to do business with Sellafield’ brochure.
“My role certainly keeps me busy, but at the same time I find it interesting and challenging.
“The breadth of responsibilities of the Ombudsman and the level of engagement with our suppliers is unique in the nuclear industry and I think that this is why we have been nominated for this prestigious award.”
Dave will have to wait until 4 September, along with the other finalists, to find out whether his role at Sellafield has won an award.
