Highly active storage tank emptied two years early

Emptying of one of Sellafield’s Highly Active Storage Tanks (HAST) two years ahead of schedule has been successfully achieved. The transfer of the last 59 cubic metres of liquor from HAST 4, equivalent to 1,500te of historic Magnox reprocessing, took place in two stages during January and May, and required careful coordination of a number of safety factors, both conventional and radiological, and operational constraints.

Sealines successfully recovered by British Nuclear Group

Safety scheme benefits school

Archbishop visits Sellafield

The Archbishop of York, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Dr John Sentamu, accompanied by the Bishop of Carlisle, Rt Revd Graham Dow, and the Bishop of Penrith, the Rt Revd James Newcome, made a visit to Sellafield on Friday 19 May. This was the Archbishop\'s first visit to the Church of England Diocese of Carlisle, in which Sellafield is situated.

Underwater success

A challenging subsea project to replace and install diffusers to the operational sealines (diffusers are used to help further disperse liquid effluent prior to final discharge to sea) has been completed by British Nuclear Group’s Decommissioning Projects, working with specialist contractors, Land & Marine, in just over six weeks.

Innovation solutions aid PCM recovery

44 years of discharges prevented after early end to Sellafield waste programme
