£5,000 donation helps buy new mini-bus for Scouts

The company recently made a £5,000 donation to the Harrington Scout Group to put towards a new 17-seater van. Group scout leader, Andrew Brown, scout leaders Simon Martin and Andrew Hardy, Beaver Colony Leader, and Explorer leader Andy Dawson represented the Scout Group as Sellafield Ltd’s director of communications, Chris Philipsborn presented the new van.

‘Lump bunch’ do the moonwalk

Two sisters from Sellafield Ltd were among a group of 15,000 participants who donned their bras and took to the streets of London to take part in the annual ‘Moonwalk’ marathon to raise money for breast cancer research. Joanne Gavin and Janine Bell, who are both based at Risley, took part in the mammoth midnight trek on 17 May.

Book sales raise £2k

RISLEY based employee, Jean Dickinson, has raised almost £2,000 over the last twelve months, having organised four book, video and CD sales in the site’s Café Continental. The money will go towards Risley’s nominated charity this year, Wigan and Leigh Hospice. Pauline Deans, the head campaigner for the charity at Sellafield Ltd, said: “Over the past six years Jean has worked incredibly hard, making a substantial contribution to our charities of the year and has raised over £9,000 from her book sales which are a regular feature and very well supported”.
