What criteria are we looking for in students?
Our student recruitment criteria reflect graduate entry requirements. We look for someone who is undertaking a degree at a University offering accreditation by the appropriate Professional Institute (where appropriate) with a minimum of a 2nd class honours degree predicted.
Control, Instrumentation, electrical engineering (or related degrees). Chemical/Process Engineering, Chemistry, Civil, Structural, Architectural and Building, Environmental Science, Manufacturing, Materials, Mechanical Engineering, Physics and Project Management and Business.
We are looking for students in these disciplines who have the potential to achieve a 2:2.
Do the student placements have any accreditations?
All of Sellafield Ltd individual technical programmes have been accredited by many of the key institutions including the IET, ICE, IChemE, ImechE, IOP, RSC, IOM3 and IEMA. We’re also extending our training and development to meet the requirements of leading business institutions such as CIPS and CIMA. Whilst this mainly applies to our newly qualified graduates, as a student, this needs to be on your radar as you aren’t too far away from the road to professional development and Chartered Status.
What is involved in the Online testing?
If you meet our minimum criteria you’ll complete an online aptitude test. These are numerical and verbal reasoning assessments and take around 40 minutes.
What Benefits & Rewards are there?
The work life balance gives you the opportunity to work hard and play hard. Your annual leave on entry is 24 days inclusive of public holidays. Depending on your skills and experience, we offer Year in Industry Students around £10k per annum and a competitive salary ranging between £12,000 and £14,000 based on your experience for our summer vacation and industrial placement students

Sellafield
Occupying a 4 square kilometre area just outside Seascale, Sellafield represents the most challenging nuclear site management programme in the world. Step foot outside the site however and you’re looking at some of the most stunning countryside in the world. With the magnificent lake district on your doorstep the opportunities for outdoor activities is incredibly varied – everything from walking and cycling to mountain climbing. You’ll be joining an incredible 10,000 other members of our team here too, who’ve created a vibrant social network. Property prices are reasonable too, giving you the perfect chance to get your foot on the ladder.
Risley
Risley in Warrington is home to approximately 1,500 employees, most of whom are engaged on engineering and design related activities supporting our Sellafield site operations. Others work in support activities such as Human Resources, Commercial, Finance and EHS&Q. Risley’s also the home of our International Nuclear Services business. Just a short commute away from Manchester and Liverpool, if you’re after the big city life it’s the perfect location.
Will I get my travel expenses reimbursed?
We will also re-imburse reasonable travelling expenses following your attendance.
