Unite demonstration at Sellafield
Sellafield Ltd has been made aware that a number of Unite union members working for contracting firms at Sellafield are proposing a demonstration outside the Sellafield site on Thursday 13 October 2011 between 06:15am and 08:00am. This will involve the handing-out of leaflets to drivers as they approach the Sellafield site.
This demonstration has nothing to do with Sellafield Ltd and is the result of a national dispute between the Unite union and several construction contractors relating to proposed changes to terms and conditions for electrical workers. These changes do not affect any workers based at Sellafield as we operate under a separate agreement. No Sellafield Ltd employees or their union representatives will be involved in the demonstration.
Sellafield Ltd will be doing all it can to minimise the impact to our employees and the community, however owing to the timing and location of this demonstration, it is possible that there will disruptions to traffic flow on the approach to the Sellafield site and possibly on the public highway.
