New Director of Spent Fuel Management appointed

SCOTT Sax has been appointed as the new Director of Spent Fuel Management for Sellafield Ltd.
Scott replaces Stuart MacVean, who joined the site in November 2008 when Nuclear Management Partners began operating the business, and is now returning to the United States to take up a high profile position at Savannah River Remediation LLC as Deputy to the President.
Scott is a senior level project manager with 27 years of nuclear operational management experience, with the majority of these at nuclear sites.
He is leaving his current role as Chief Operating Officer at Washington River Protection Solutions, where he provides executive management for the planning, staffing, control, business development and management of the organisation’s projects. He will take up his new duties once he has completed his work in the US and following a structured handover programme.
Sellafield Ltd Managing Director Dr Todd Wright said: “Scott is known for his record in driving step-changes in performance while improving safety in hazardous environments. I am pleased we are making such a high-calibre addition to our team.
“A great deal has been achieved within Spent Fuel Management in the two and half years that Stuart has been director. Thorp reached the 6000te sheared milestone; the Stores Inventory Retrieval Project, which is making one of the greatest reductions in hazard at Sellafield, was completed ahead of schedule; the Thorp Medium Active Salt Free Evaporator was brought online and work is ongoing in the Calder asbestos strip.
“Stuart puts this down to the ‘team spirit and the flexible approach’ demonstrated by his workforce and I know they would want to join me in wishing Stuart every success in his new role and welcoming Scott to Sellafield Ltd.”
