Spirits lifted with sing-a-long
Sellafield Ltd recently gave a donation of £200 towards a concert for the elderly at Three Elms Care Home as part of its programme to be a better neighbour in our local community.
Music in Hospitals (MiH) mission is to improve the quality of life for adults and children with all kinds of illness and disability through the joy and therapeutic benefits of professionally performed live music in hospitals, hospices, day care centres, special schools, nursing and residential homes. In the region of 5,000 concerts are given each year throughout the UK.
Sid Richards, Development Manager North West, MiH said: “Concerts bring a sustained improvement to the quality of life of adults and children, whilst creating a shared experience that can be enjoyed by the wider community of healthcare staff, volunteers and relatives.”
Musicians are carefully chosen by audition and require very special qualities. As well as performing to the highest standard, they must be able to relate to each member of the audience whatever their age, illness or disability.
Pauline Deans, Corporate Responsibility Manager said: “The concert was really touching. It was lovely to see the residents joining in, singing along to old favourites like Daisy, Daisy and swaying to the Glenn Miller classics, they even had shakers so they could join in. The young musicians made everyone feel special and I am sure it will be something both staff and residents will talk about for a long time.”
