Employee challenge benefits local community

Employees from Sellafield Ltd’s Engineering Design and Delivery Capability (EDDC) team, joined members of staff from Warrington Borough Council’s environment and regeneration team, to give a facelift to the 7th Warrington (Sankey Valley) Scout headquarters in Hood Manor.

The centre on Dorchester Road is an important part of the community. Used by Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Explorers as well as other community groups, it relies heavily on the goodwill and support of users.
Pauline Deans, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Sellafield Ltd, explained: “The employee challenge forms part of a team building exercise for EDDC. The challenge helps employees to develop leadership, team working and observation skills and puts into practice the principles of social responsibility. We are grateful to one of our suppliers, Protective & Marine Coatings, for providing some specialist paint for the day, SPIE Matthew Hall for supplying some materials and Warrington Volunteer Centre for supplying the challenge.”

Tony Warburton, District Commissioner said: “The Scouts really appreciate the support of Sellafield Ltd and the council, which is helping to give a much needed facelift to the Scout headquarters. It is really important for us to create a welcoming environment for our young people, the community, visitors and volunteers, and the efforts of these organisations are making a huge contribution to this.”

Paul Adams, Head of Design Engineering at Sellafield Ltd added: “The community challenge has been set up as an opportunity for the teams to get to know each other in a fun, non-work environment, whilst having the satisfaction of putting something back into the local community that will be enjoyed by all the people who use 7th Warrington Scout headquarters.”

Phil Chadwick, Education and Promotions Officer for WBC said: “This is the second year that officers from Warrington Borough Council’s Streets, Environment and Regeneration services are once again proud to be working in partnership with EDDC at Sellafield in order to significantly improve the appearance of a scout building that will be used for the benefit of children and adult volunteers from our local community.”

The Scouts are looking for new members, adults as well as kids to join the group. They are also looking for other groups to use the headquarters once it’s had its makeover. Anyone interested should contact Tony Warburton on 01925 755128 to find out more.
