Sellafield Ltd proud to support Copeland Awards 2011

There is still time to enter the Sellafield Ltd sponsored Copeland Pride Awards 2011 – with entries being accepted until close of business on Monday.

Copeland Borough Council leader Elaine Woodburn, who chairs the organising committee, said: “After what has been a tough year for Copeland it is important that we celebrate those businesses that are thriving and going the extra mile for customers.

“The current fiscal climate is still extremely difficult for businesses to operate in, and it doesn’t look like improving an awful lot any time soon.

“But some businesses are still managing to be successful, and these awards will not only be a celebration for whose who have had prosperous years, but we hope will also serve as an inspiration to those finding it tough.”

Customers are invited to nominate their favourite business or service – but businesses can also nominate themselves. And there is every reason to do so, with the overall winners in each of the six categories in line for a cash prize to help with business development.

The judging panel will then shortlist the entries before visiting the businesses still left in the running.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Egremont Market Hall in April.

This year’s sponsors again show strong support for local business from the nuclear industry, with Nuclear Management Partners, Sellafield Ltd, LLWR and the NDA all agreeing to support the event.

The categories from last year, best place to eat, best place to drink, best place to shop and best place to stay, and an award for Copeland’s best business of the year, all remain and a new award, for business doing its best for the environment, has been added to the list.

Elaine added: “Last year’s awards were the best ever – and we’d love to go on and improve on that.

“But as a judging panel and organising committee we can only do so much; the event stands or falls on the quality and quantity of the entries – so it’s over to the public and business community.”

Entries can be submitted by email to communications@copeland.gov.uk, left in any Copeland Borough Council office or behind the counter at The Whitehaven News office. Entries need only fill in one nomination form.

So let us know which business you are nominating in which category, and of course why you feel they deserve to win!

Entries must be received by 5pm on the closing date, which is Monday, March 14.
