Thorp viewing gallery is given a facelift

Refurbishment: from left Stakeholder Relations Director with Alan Conway (Sellafield Ltd) and Stobbarts workers Darren Lingham and Steve Glaister

Almost 23 years after it originally opened an attraction for visitors to the Sellafield site, the Thorp viewing gallery has just undergone a facelift.

The refurbished gallery now includes six designated information bays – each focusing on a specific area of operation from across the business: decommissioning/high hazard risk reduction, project management, waste management, spent fuel management, a Thorp overview and a corporate overview.

After several years since its last refurbishment, the most recent update has been completed by members of the Stakeholder Relations directorate with installation of the new exhibition panels delivered teams from within Thorp.

Stuart MacVean, Spent Fuel Management Director, said: “It is really important that we are able to tell ‘our story’ to the outside world when they come to visit Sellafield. This is an opportunity to demonstrate the great work that is being carried out in Thorp and across the business to visitors from across the UK and overseas.

“The new exhibitions help tell that story by capturing everything from the day to day operations, the challenges, the achievements and how it all ties together.

“My thanks go to everyone who has helped deliver this work and install the new displays. The work was done to schedule, under budget and finished product looks great.”
