The Institution of Mechanical Engineers Young Member of the Year Awards 2010
Congratulations are the order of the day for Claire Jones, mechanical engineer and Jen Corbett, mechanical engineer following their joint success in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) ‘Young Member of the Year Awards 2010’.
At the IMechE Annual Awards Dinner held in London, Claire was announced as the overall winner and named the ‘Young member of the Year 2010’ and Jen won the award in the Key Themes category.
Claire, who is actively involved in promoting IMechE, was given her award in recognition of the wide range of volunteering activities she undertakes to promote engineering. Instrumental in forming the ‘West Cumbria Young member’s panel’ in 2009, which she now Chairs, she is also a member of the West Cumbria IMechE panel and is one of the sites Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Ambassadors.
“I was both honoured and surprised to receive the recognition of my hard work, in the form of this award” said Claire.
“I volunteer because I enjoy it and get to work with a wonderful group of people, all dedicated to promoting the engineering profession. To have Ross Brawn (Mercedes GP Petronas), someone I have professionally admired for a long time, present me with my award made it extra special.”
Jen who is the Honorary Secretary of the West Cumbria Young Members Panel received her award in recognition for her continuing contribution to the key themes of Education, Environment, Energy and Transport.
Jen said: “I appreciated being nominated, let alone to win the category of key themes. It’s rare to see two people from the same area win these awards. I feel it shows just how far we have come in the last year as a panel as individuals and as a team.”
Claire is now looking forward to touring Ross Brawns Formula 1 facility after receiving a personal invitation at the awards ceremony.
