Sellafield worker is named Young Project Manager of the Year
Sellafield Ltd’s Neil Crewdson has just been named Young Project Manager of the Year at the prestigious Association for Project Management Awards 2010.
Neil scooped the national prize after entering the award for his work on the “Waste Vitrification Plants Glass Frit Feed Project”.
Neil was responsible for managing the two-year project worth £9.6 million which involved the replacement of worn and contaminated pipework used in the Vitrification Plant - where highly radioactive liquor is converted to glass ready for long term storage.
The Association for Project Management stated that the judges in the Young Project Manager of the Year category were looking for an account of an outstanding rise to challenge, tenacity in the face of obstacles and flair in documenting their work as a project manager. Neil beat off stiff competition from other young Project Managers from Turner & Townsend and London Underground (Transport for London).
Neil commented: “I am delighted to have won this award. It demonstrates that the work that we do at Sellafield Ltd can hold itself up with the best in class and I am extremely proud to represent the company.”
Neil’s boss, Waste and Effluent Disposition Director Mike Johnson, commended him on the award stating: “Neil displayed personal commitment, determination and resilience throughout the successful delivery of the Glass Frit Feed Project. He displayed visible leadership, worked additional hours and was available for his team 24/7 throughout - he thoroughly deserves to win this award and I speak on behalf of the entire Sellafield Ltd executive team in congratulating him.”
Neil joined Sellafield in 1995 as an apprentice. He has held various roles in the Spent Fuel Management and Waste and Effluent Disposition directorates and is also a Science and Engineering Ambassador. Neil is currently heading up the High Level Waste Plants Projects team comprising 160 people and managing a £25million budget.
