It’ll be all white on the night for Kevin
A Sellafield worker is using his position within the local snooker community to organise a charity event featuring Jimmy ‘the whirlwind’ White.
When he’s not busy working as a shift team manager in Thorp Kevin Basnett is secretary of the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League, and through his connections in the snooker world he has pulled together what promises to be two exciting events.
Kevin said: "I wanted to use my position within the local Snooker League to raise money for this tremendous charity"
"In the past few months West Cumbria has really suffered, with the floods, then the Keswick bus crash and then the terrible trauma of the Cumbria shootings. The Great North Air Ambulance was on hand to help with all three incidents so to give something to those who helped the local community directly in these tragic times didn't require much thought."
On Tuesday October 5th at Whitehaven Civic Hall Jimmy White will take on former world number five Stephen Lee. The evening involves a two course meal, eight frames of snooker and a charity sports auction – with entertainment provided by popular local compare Howard Nicholson.
Then, 24 hours later, on Wednesday October 6th, the event will be repeated at Workington’s Washington Central. Tickets for each event, which include the meal, are priced at £28 and a small number are still available from Kevin on 07983522842.
Kevin added: "I first met Stephen Lee last year who helped me raise nearly £3000 for the Cranio facial unit at Alder Hey Children's hospital, Liverpool who treated my second son, Harry for cranial defect he was born . Though that connection with Stephen I managed to secure Jimmy's services. I'm hoping that both evenings will be a sell out and we and raise loads of cash for this fantastic cause"
Both events start at 6.30, with food served at 7pm, and those attending are asked to dress smartly.
