Volunteer motorbike riders wanted – Poppy Appeal

The Royal British Legion Riders branch will be riding their motorbikes across our county in October to launch this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Volunteer motor bikers are required to ride alongside the riders, stopping off at villages and towns on the way including; Workington, Whitehaven, Egremont and Sellafield where Jamie Reed, local MP, Carl Lewthwaite Sellafield Ltd disability advisor and other representatives from Sellafield Ltd will meet the riders at the main gate.

The two day ride will take place over the weekend of Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October, starting off at 9am from Grange over Sands on day one and finishing in Barrow in Furness at 3pm on day two.

Throughout the ride they will be carrying a golden poppy which can be won by entering a competition. The golden poppy has been specially commissioned by a local jeweller and the winner will be announced when the poppy ride is complete.

Carl said: “The Royal British Legion have been helping and supporting many of the staff here at Sellafield for some time now. The help and support they can offer in some cases can be life changing. I can support this statement as I have been a service user and I encourage people to support this appeal.”

If you would like any further information about the Golden Poppy ride or would like to volunteer please contact Carl Lewthwaite, mobex 7353 or 07814 090380, email Carl on CL25 or carl.lewthwaite@sellafieldsites.com.
