Sellafield workers are welcomed as Mayor and Mayoress of Millom
More than 12 Mayors, Mayoresses and Deputy Mayors joined Sellafield Ltd workers Doug and Fee Wilson in a recent service to welcome them as Mayor and Mayoress of Millom.
Cllr Doug Wilson, a quality manager and his wife Fee, a communications manager recently took up their positions in office and are getting well involved in all that the role requires of them.
The celebratory service was held in St Luke’s Church in Haverigg on 25th July and was attended by some 120 guests. The Reverend Robert Bracegirdle conducted the service with readings from Elaine Woodburn, Leader of Copeland Council and Doug.
The Holborn Hill Royal Brass Band Junior Section provided the music at the service and at the buffet reception which was later held at Haverigg Rugby Union Club.
Talking about their year Mayor and Mayoress, Doug and Fee said; "We are thoroughly enjoying our year, we are two months in and we have already undertaken thirty four civic duties. The last two months have been a blur of judging, awarding trophies, visiting local schools, hospitals and attending fund raising events right across West Cumbria and North Lancashire.
"We have been amazed at the warmth and hospitality we have received from the community."
