Members of the Sellafield Ltd Executive team were rightfully proud to be informed recently that they were the first group to successfully complete the URS Project Management Path Certification for Project Executives.

In recognition of their success, four members of the executive team were presented with their awards at the Ennerdale House Country Hotel earlier this month.

Speaking about the award John Lee, URS Vice President and project management functional lead said: "URS established a project management programme which provides certification at three different levels consisting of project management, project director and project executive.

"At the third level of the programme we are looking at demonstrated leadership. We spend a fair amount of time looking at each individual in terms of their experiences and leadership.

"The final step is an oral board process where very senior people in the company asked a lot of tough questions.

"The site executives that came from the URS side all went through the project executive level successfully, and we wanted to present the awards to acknowledge their achievement."

The seven members of the site executive team to gain the award are Bill Condon, director project management, Carol Johnson, executive director infrastructure, Mike Johnson, executive director Waste & Effluent Disposition, Graham McKendry, executive director MOX operations, Russ Mellor, executive director decommissioning, Stuart MacVean, director spent fuel management and Todd Wright, deputy managing director.

Asked about the future for the programme John said: "We will continue to implement the certification programme across URS. Bill Condon intends to implement a similar programme at Sellafield. We have had a team at Sellafield look at each and every one of the assessment questions to see if they are applicable here or need to be changed. They have also added additional materials associated specifically with the new Sellafield project management procedures. The intention is that this programme will be rolled out within Sellafield Ltd in the near future."
