Sellafield Utilities team safety success benefits charities

Sellafield Ltd's Utilities Team

Congratulations to Sellafield Ltd’s Utilities team who have achieved more than 2000 days without a lost time accident lasting more than three days.

The diversity of the roles within the team make this achievement even more impressive as they’re responsible for supplying buildings on the Sellafield site with compressed air, water, electricity , steam and chemicals as well as looking after drainage and sewage, which involves many varied and challenging tasks.

The team of 104 employees contributed to this achievement by using human performance tools including questioning attitude, STAR (stop, think, act and review), pre - job briefs, the phonetic alphabet and three -way communications. In addition carrying out ‘one minute’ risk assessments, behavioural safety observations, hazard reporting and detailed housekeeping inspections have also contributed.

Ed Crosby, manufacturing manager for Utilities, said:“Utilities personnel work in a multitude of locations and are therefore faced with different hazards every day. As such reaching this landmark is a very significant achievement of which every departmental member is very proud.”

Four charities will benefit from the team’s success: Cancer Research, Wasdale Mountain Rescue, Help the Heroes, and Friends of Seascale School who will each receive £500.
