It’s blooming marvellous at Capenhurst!
Three green fingered employees from Capenhurst got out their trowels to plant some flowers as part of World Environment Day 2009.
Paul Foster, Allan Weaves and Alan Formstone, who all work in the site operations unit, took time out of their weekends to come into work to dig and plant two flower beds and they also made up three planters. Using an array of flowers from begonias and petunias, to busy lizzies and geraniums they have given Capenhurst site a boost of colour.
The planters have been positioned outside the site operations building and the flower bed that faces the building hosts the initials of the unit. The guys not only took time out to do this they also worked all day in the highest temperatures we have experienced so far this year.
Paul who is part of the environment committee came up with the idea as part of World Environment Day which is taking place on Friday 5 June 2009. He chose to do the work at the weekend as he wanted to make a big impression on people when they came into work on the Monday when they drove past the building.
Paul said: "The site was lacking colour and needed brightening up. I am very keen on the environment and gardening so it seemed the best thing to do- a labour of love. Allan Weaver and Alan Formstone were very enthusiastic about the idea and their help was invaluable. Comments so far have been fantastic, and I hope this is just the start to make Capenhurst an even better place to work."
The theme for World Environment Day 2009 is - Your Planet Needs You! Unite to Combat Climate Change.
