Prime Minister welcomed to Sellafield
Sellafield Ltd was delighted to welcome Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Mike O’Brien MP, Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, to the Sellafield site today (Friday, January 23).
Their visit proved a valuable opportunity to demonstrate the close working partnership between Sellafield Ltd and its customer, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
Mr Brown and Mr O’Brien were able to gain an appreciation of the range of operations carried out on site, which we believe has a key role to play in Britain’s energy future.
A private meeting was also arranged with representatives of the site’s trades unions, who were instrumental in securing the visit.
We were also very pleased to be able to host meetings with representatives of the local community.
We hope that those meetings will add further impetus to the developing Britain’s Energy Coast programme, which is of significant importance to the development of West Cumbria.
Sellafield Ltd remains committed to playing its part in that process.
