Special achievement recognition for Sellafield Ltd employee

Head of Sellafield’s Procurement Profession, Robert Astall has just been presented with a special achievement award - recognising the work he has done in supporting the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) in Cumbria and at Sellafield Ltd in terms of educating and training staff.

CIPS is an international organisation, serving the purchasing and supply profession, which promotes best practice and provides a wide range of services for the benefit of members and the wider business community.

Robert was one of forty CIPS members from across the globe that was nominated for the recognition award. Of the 40, only12 were selected to receive the award.

The purpose of the award is to recognise and reward the contribution of the ‘unsung heroes’ who support CIPS and help the institute achieve its objectives.

Speaking about the award, Head of Corporate Relations Management for CIPS, David Fox said Robert was nominated for the award for three reasons.

“Robert has been a great supporter of people development. Likewise, the work he has done obtaining CIPS certification for Sellafield Ltd as a company has been recognised. Robert has also been a prime mover in successfully getting the Cumbria branch of CIPS up and running.”

Receiving the award at a surprise ceremony held at Banna Court on 7 January in front of his colleagues, Robert spoke of his ‘complete shock, but tremendous delight’ at receiving the accolade.

“Over the last three years we have worked hard at Sellafield to forge a number of strong links with CIPS to raise the level of professionalism of our staff and to put Cumbria on the map with the Institute through the setting up of the local CIPS Branch. This award reflects the enthusiasm and dedication of many procurement professionals. I’m proud of them all.”
