Helping others avoid major accidents

Dave Mason

Sellafield Ltd’s director for environment, health, safety and quality recently accepted and invitation to speak at a prestigious health and safety conference at the Queen Elizabeth Conference Hall in London.

The Major Hazards Conference, “Leading from the top – avoiding major incidents” was designed to provide a forum for chief executives and industry leaders in the major hazards sector to discuss and share experiences on how top level commitment and leadership can make such a huge difference in securing the strong, positive health and safety cultures so important if major incidents are to be avoided.

At the conference Dave led a session called Leading and Learning – building on experiences from peer review. Other speakers included British Energy Group plc, BP Group, National Grid and Malcolm Wicks, Minister for Energy. Speaking about the invite, Dave said: “This represents a tremendous opportunity to
enable sharing of best practice and improving high standard safety management in the UK. “I am delighted that HSE understand the benefits that can be realised by Peer Review and have endorsed the use we make of the World Association of Nuclear Operators.”
