Winners of the 2008 North West Newspaper Awards Announced
The North West’s leading journalists collected prize money totalling some £5,000 at Sellafield Ltd sponsored North West Newspaper Awards presentation lunch at the Sellafield Centre Cumbria on 20 June 2008.
This year’s competition attracted record entries in its seventeenth year history. The day was hosted by Chris Philipsborn Director of Sellafield Communications
After a tour of the Sellafield site the winners and runners-up were presented with their awards by Fiona Armstrong News Presenter from Border Television, who was also the guest speaker at the event.
And the Winners were:
News Reporter of the Year awarded to David Higgerson Liverpool Daily Post
Feature Writer of the Year awarded to Paddy Shennan Liverpool Echo
Sports Reporter of the Year awarded to Amanda Little News & Star / Cumberland News
Photographer of the Year awarded to Colin Lane Liverpool Daily Post & Echo
Young Journalist of the Year awarded to Sally Henfield Lancashire Telegraph
Daily Newspaper of the Year awarded to The Bolton News
Weekly Newspaper of the Year awarded to The Cumberland News
Daily Newspaper Website of the Year awarded to Liverpool Daily Post
Weekly Newspaper Website of the Year awarded to Warrington Guardian
Each winner in the individual categories picked up a cheque for £700 and a certificate and the two runners-up were awarded a cheque for £150 and a certificate. The daily and weekly newspaper and website winners each collected a trophy and a certificate and the runners-up were presented with a certificate.
Chris Philipsborn Director of Sellafield Communications said “ This year proved to still be as popular as ever with all the nominees, and the event was enjoyed by all invited guests on the day . What a challenge those judges faced in picking the winners.”
