Calder wins fifth consecutive RoSPA Gold Medal Award

Calder Hall has been awarded the prestigious RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety performance for the ninth consecutive year, resulting in the awarding of a fifth Gold Medal.

Speaking on the success at Calder, Phil Campbell, Calder Hall Site Manager, said: "The fact that we have now received nine consecutive gold awards reflects on a sustained high level of safety performance over a long period of time. If Calder were to continue as a separate site for one more year, we would have been in contention for the RoSPA 'President's Award'.

I am particularly pleased that we have received the award over this last year, a year in which a lot of decommissioning work has been undertaken, demonstrating that we have been able to maintain our performance during a period in which there has been a lot of potentially high risk work activities, (cooling tower demolition, asbestos removal, work at height, building demolition). Achievement at this level does not come automatically or by dictate, it requires the right attitude towards safety by everybody - so congratulations to everyone concerned."

RoSPA Gold Medals are presented to organisations who for a minimum of five years have achieved consecutive gold awards for their occupational health and safety systems, safety culture and control of risk, error, harm and loss.

The award will be presented to workforce representatives at a ceremony in Birmingham on 15 May.
