Decade without LTA for decontamination centre
An entire decade has gone by without a Lost time Accident (LTA) occurring in the Decontamination Centre part of Active Area Services, a big achievement for this small but dedicated team.
Dealing with the decontamination of a wide variety of items, from small bolts up to the size of a five tonne proportional sampler, work is a constant flow of between 60 to 80 items each week. However, with increased decommissioning activities, much of the work demanded is individual, non-routine decontamination.
With much of the work manual, it is a feat that the team have maintained this clean record. With the exception of one person, they have all worked in the same department for the full 10 year period.
Manufacturing Manager Dino Pardini, was keen to make sure the workers got the recognition they deserve: “It is a worthy achievement for the department to go 10 years without an LTA - even more remarkable when you consider the amount of manual handling and movement of items that takes place in the building which is an ageing facility.
“It is a tribute to the operators and supervisors in the area that they maintain a significant service to the site during a period of pressure and changes and satisfying Continued Operations Safety Reports, regulator and economic demands.”
