Supplier Forum success

With over 300 people from across the supply chain, the autumn 2007 Supplier Forum proved a networking opportunity not to miss with procurement opportunities for the next six months on show.

Held twice a year, the forums are an opportunity for extending dialogue and increasing engagement with the supply chain and to keep suppliers up-to-date with what’s happening at Sellafield and across the nuclear industry. They are also an opportunity for suppliers to develop relationships with other suppliers.

Tuesday’s forum encompassed the entire Sellafield Visitors Centre, with exhibitor stands taking up most of the hall. Key speakers included Steve Morgan, Sellafield’s Commercial and Contract Management Director; Mr Andrew King, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Skills Academy and Dave Magrath, Head of Procurement for Sellafield Ltd.

Speakers addressed audiences on a diverse array of topics based around the theme of ‘cost control and enhanced performance’, something that Steve Morgan openly encouraged in his opening speech.

“It’s true that the NDA is giving us more [funding] than we have received before, but we are required to do much more than we have ever done before.

“There is no one big pot of gold we can reclaim by merely deleting a block of work. What we must do is change the way we do business,” he said, before adding, “We need to rethink everything we do with the supply chain.”

Speakers were given ten-minute allocations with a chance for questions at the end, covering topics from the half-yearly Sellafield Ltd procurement plan, strategy and transition, contract management, and the role of cost and price analysis.

Exhibitors at the event included: GEN II, Capenhurst, Nuclear Skills Academy Nuclear, Nuclear Skills Academy, Lakes College, Westlakes Renaissance, Cumbria Community Foundation, West Cumbria Supply Chain Project, and TMP Worldwide.
