Visitors Centre hosts Pride Awards

The Sellafield Visitors Centre hosted the annual Copeland Pride Awards last week, welcoming representatives from local businesses throughout the region as they came together to celebrate the best in what the region has to offer.

Around 80 people attended the event held on Thursday 25 October which was organised by Copeland Borough Council. A series of awards were presented throughout the evening by Shirley Williams, Sellafield Ltd, Peter Mann, UKAEA, Cllr Tim Knowles and Cllr Cath Giel, from Copeland Borough Council, Iain Irvine, Washington Group International, the Mayor of Copeland and Alan Cleaver, Deputy Editor of the Whitehaven News.

The winners were: 
Best Accommodation: Duddon Villa, Millom 
Best Multiple Retailer: Eat @ Doughnuts 
Best Independent Retailer: Wath Brow Post Office and Farren\'s Family Shop, Cleator (joint winners) 
Best Pub or Club: The Waterfront, Whitehaven 
Best Customer Service: Bewsher, Whitehaven and JJ\'s Cafe, Egremont (joint winners) 
Best Food Outlet: Millstones, Bootle 
Best Tourist Attraction: Millom RAF Museum 
Individual Award for Special Achievement: Gerard Richardson for his work with the Maritime Festival

Copeland Borough Council Leader, Elaine Woodburn, said: “The quality that we have seen this year has been remarkable. I am proud, as a leader of the council and as a local person, of what we have to offer in the area – and these awards present us with an opportunity to honour the very best.”
