Transforming the past - safely!

‘SAFETY is a given’. This continued message from British Nuclear Group\'s Andy Scargill, decommissioning project superintendent, paid off in style as his decommissioning team proudly exceeded 12 months without a single Lost Time Accident (LTA) in June.

Given the variety of work that the decommissioning team are tasked with, this is an exemplary achievement for the 300 plus workforce.

“Throughout the year numerous varied projects have been delivered, each with their own unique challenges and constraining environments,” said Andy. “Many innovative, and some ‘tried and tested’ techniques have been used ranging from major size reduction and retrieval work with air fed suits, to final building demolition and even diving operations on the Sealine Recovery project. To achieve approximately 800,000 hours without an LTA is highly commendable.

“This is a significant achievement, setting the standard for our future. ‘Safety is everyone’s responsibility and this success demonstrates the healthy relationship and good communication between our support functions and delivery teams.”
