Sealine Project reinstates beach

British Nuclear Group achieved a major project milestone on the Sealine Recovery Project at Sellafield in May with the completion of the reinstatement of the beach adjacent to Sellafield.

This significant work included the removal of man made items which have supported the pipelines for over 50 years. A total of approximately 1500 tonnes of concrete and steel used to locate the pipes on the beach has also been removed

Highlighting British Nuclear Group's achievement project manager, Paul Farran, commented: “The pipe removal opened up the opportunity to remove all materials from the beach, and to return it to its former condition.

Cllr David Moore, chairman of the West Cumbria Sites Stakeholder Group, said: "I am pleased that this phase of the project has been completed and that the beach has been reinstated in time for the start of the summer season. British Nuclear Group has kept the community well informed of the project's progress. I look forward to the successful and safe completion of the project."
