Graduates take up community challenge
New entrants to British Nuclear Group\'s graduate programme, including many based at Sellafield, recently got a taste of what it\'s like to work together with the community.
The community challenge event, which aims to raise awareness and importance of British Nuclear Group\'s work in the community, took place at Fermain Youth Centre in Macclesfield, Cheshire. The centre is a registered charity and provides a valuable service to young people between the ages of 4 and 25.
From Community Affairs, British Nuclear Group, Pauline Deans said: The facility offers a broad range of services to a range of groups including special needs, young offenders and those disadvantaged by circumstance. Staff at the centre offer both full and part time care and aim to develop confidence. They also encourage greater integration with carers and families.
On completing the challenge, the graduates had created a new indoor sensory area and computer suite and restored a communal seating area. They also created new designs for walls and floors and an outdoor garden area with raised herb and alpine gardens and new seating.
Sarah Wolstenholme of Community Affairs, British Nuclear Group said: The project has provided a much brighter, comfortable and stimulating learning environment for the young people using the facility.
We are really pleased with the creativity and involvement from all of the graduates and are absolutely delighted with the end result. We really hope that the transformation contributes towards the future success of the centre.
