Starchaser rockets in to Cumbria
The Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) West Cumbria branch, supported by Sellafield, gave a dramatic start to their new events season with a visit from the Starchaser rocket and capsule.
It is hoped that the rocket and capsule will win the $10 million Ansari X prize in an international contest to send a privately financed rocket with three passengers into space twice in two weeks.
The rocket, and the man behind Starchaser Industries, founder and team leader Steve Bennett, visited both Stainburn school and St Benedicts school in October where practical rocketry demonstrations were given to the students.
British Nuclear Group made a donation to the IMechE helping to bring the event to the two schools which were supported by the company during their bid for specialist school status.
