Youngsters' winning artwork on permanent display at Hinton House

Winning works of art by Warrington youngsters have been chosen to brighten up the reception area of Hinton House after a competition for schools.

Almost 300 entries were received when Birchwood schools were invited to take part in the art competition, organised by NDA Properties Ltd, a subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, in conjunction with Warrington Borough Council’s Schools and Young People’s Service.

The competition was sponsored Sellafield Ltd, facilities management company SPIE Matthew Hall, which is undertaking the refurbishment, as well as other Hinton House occupants - CSC Computer Sciences Ltd, catering firm Consultant Services Group and Ensign Glass.

The Mayor of Warrington Cllr John Joyce presented the two main winners with £500 for school equipment along with a digital camera prize, at a recent ceremony at Hinton House.

The paintings by Marc Browne from Fox Wood Special School and Jasmine Oakley from Birchwood High School have been enlarged and printed onto glass, and are now on permanent display at Hinton House. The two schools also received a copy of their pictures mounted on glass.

David Atkinson, head of NDA Properties Ltd, said: “We were undertaking a refurbishment programme and wanted a vibrant, welcoming reception area. The art competition gave us a chance to involve the community and showcase the talents of our local schoolchildren – while adding a really fresh touch to the décor.”

Pinaki Ghoshal, assistant director of children and young people’s services at Warrington Borough Council, added: “I would like to congratulate not only the winners, but all the pupils who took part in this competition. Warrington boasts a wealth of talented young people and I am delighted they have been given this opportunity to showcase their work.”
