After studying chemical engineering at the University of Manchester for two years, I applied for and was accepted to do a summer placement at Sellafield to enhance my chemical engineering knowledge. Prior to beginning my placement, I had never visited Cumbria and knew nobody in the local area so I was a little worried about what to expect.
However, I couldn't believe how friendly and helpful everyone was (both new graduates and members of senior staff!). Furthermore, there are lots of extra-curricular activities and social events organised by the graduates so it is very easy to make friends and settle into the area straight away.
Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience working at Sellafield Ltd and would definitely recommend it to any student who is looking to gain insight into how their degree applies to industry.
