Chemical Engineering at Sellafield

Are you pursuing a degree in chemical engineering?

If so an industrial placement at Sellafield Ltd may be the opportunity you are looking for to expand your experience and knowledge before you begin your career in this exciting and challenging sector.

From any engineering perspective the Sellafield site is predominantly a network of highly complex, interconnected process operations, representing unique design and operational challenges.

Most of the operations carried out at our Sellafield site are extremely challenging given the unique constraints associated with the age of the plants, the radioactive environment and extreme regulator scrutiny. These challenges call on chemical engineers to apply fundamental principles in novel and innovative ways.

Our chemical engineers are currently using their skills to support a wide range of projects, moving through the entire plant lifecycle – from conception, design and commissioning right through to operation and decommissioning.

As the operation of our Thorp and Magnox reprocessing plants continues and the design and construction of decommissioning facilities for older plants progresses, we need chemical engineers to play a key role in developing the future strategy for the site.
