The Sellafield Ltd Graduate Scheme

About the Scheme

Over two years the Sellafield Ltd Graduate Scheme will give you the skills and knowledge you need to become a professional expert in your chosen discipline, with numerous opportunities to experience the different challenges a world class nuclear establishment can offer you.

Graduate development

In the two years that you’ll be part of the scheme, we will maximise your skills, confidence and experience. That's a bold statement, but one we're able to back up. Real 'on the job' experience, significant responsibilities from day one and all of the support you need to achieve chartered status, if you so wish.

Of course, whilst we hope that you'll be with us for many years to come, we recognise that your career may eventually take you elsewhere too. The good news is that the skills and experience we'll give you will be transferable to many other businesses and sectors. In fact, given the wide range of pioneering projects that you'll be involved in, you'll be able to take anything in your stride.

Throughout the programme, you're at the centre of your own development. We want you to experience everything that's on offer here. After all, the more you get out of it all, the more you'll be able to contribute to our future. We're passionate about giving you the opportunity to work across our business, developing the skills and experience that'll help you get to where you want to be. For example, if you feel the need to enhance your technical abilities with more commercial experience you can request a secondment to our commercial department.

Accreditation

Our range of individual technical programmes have been accredited by many of the key institutions including the IET, ICE, IChemE, IMechE, IMA, IoP, RSC, IOM3 and IEMA. We're also extending our training and development to meet the requirements of leading business institutions such as CIPS and CIMA. We're there for you every step of the way too, with finely honed performance management processes in place to help you realise your career goals.

Networking

Networking is an integral part of the Sellafield Graduate Scheme. Starting a new career and moving to a new area can seem like a daunting prospect but we want to make the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

With a database of shared knowledge for all our graduates to use, online forums as well as a Sellafield Graduate Facebook page, you’ll never be stuck when it comes to finding out information about everything from accommodation to travel, arranging your social life, work life and anything in between!

We have a thriving Graduate Community run by an elected group of representative graduates who organise frequent socials and activities ensuring you play as hard as you work! This community is also a point of call for all informal work and chartership questions as they’re one step ahead of you in completing the graduate scheme.

Mentoring

While we are keen to ensure that the social aspect of your programme is covered, we've got an equally strong mentoring framework in place to ensure you get as much support when it comes to your professional development. Your mentor is basically there to help you get the most out of the programme. Working closely with you and your line manager they'll help identify and meet your ongoing development needs, fulfilling the standards expected by professional institutions for accreditation.

You will also have a graduate buddy from the previous year’s intake, who is there to help you on an informal basis. Your buddy will get in touch with you prior to starting with Sellafield Ltd, and will continue to be a useful point of contact throughout your two years on the graduate scheme.
