He’s a record breaker

Gary McKee

Sellafield Ltd’s very own marathon man has smashed the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive marathons ran by a man today.

Charity challenger Gary McKee is taking on his toughest task yet – running 100 marathons in 100 days to raise money for Macmillan Cancer support.

Running his 56th marathon in a row will see him beat the current record of 55, and anyone who wants to beat him will have their work cut out as he still has 44 days and 44 marathons to face. This is one man who takes it in his stride. Gary who is hoping to raise as much money as he can for Macmillan Cancer Support says: “It’s hard – but it’s a bit of running, and I can do it. Every day someone somewhere loses someone they love to cancer- that’s really hard, and my bit of running doesn’t compare to someone going through that. My life changed when my dad was diagnosed with cancer, so I know what it’s like and this is my way of doing something constructive.

“I’m just really grateful to everyone who has sponsored me so far, including lots of colleagues from Sellafield Ltd, and all the businesses that have got behind me by sponsoring my running vests and supporting me.”
